Inaugurated on October 26, 2001, the Terras de Santa Maria Paper Museum is the first museum space dedicated to the History of Paper in Portugal.
The creation of a monographic museum dedicated to the History of Paper is justified by the importance that, since 1708, the paper industry has had in the municipality of Santa Maria da Feira and in several neighboring municipalities that integrate a vast region of the ancient land of Santa Maria . Simultaneously, this new museographic proposal dedicated to the History of Paper came to fill a gap in the Portuguese Industrial Museology.
The Paper Museum, owned by the Municipality of Santa Maria da Feira, is part of the Cultural Heritage Division under its responsibility.
Since May 18, 2002, this museum has been part of the Portuguese Museum Network.
